About Reed City Group

Our mission is to be the preferred partner for engineered and innovative solutions for plastics, tooling, and automation.

Who We Are

Reed City Group is a full-scale mold building, press making and plastic injection molding company based in Reed City, Michigan. Best known in global industries for our turnkey garage door panel and steel roof shingle hydraulic press manufacturing, our highly skilled team also provides a complete range of mold building and plastic injection molding services. From mold design to part testing, we are a facility built on core skilled trades. Our values of integrity, attention to detail and customer service are evident in all our products and services.

Our 80,000 square foot facility includes 68,000 square feet of manufacturing space. Under this roof, our average of 75 employees includes a range of skilled journeyman moldmakers, skilled machinists, mechanical engineers, technical designers and sales engineers.

Background & Ownership

In 1959, Reed City Group & Die opened as the foremost expert in the tooling industry. After successfully building its reputation and diversifying its capabilities for over three decades, Reed City Group & Die became a division of Pilot Industries, a Tier 1 automotive component manufacturer. Ownership was transferred to Canadian automotive manufacturer, Martinrea Industries Inc., in 2002. Throughout these transitions, Reed City Group continued to excel in its core strengths and values: skilled trades, high performance mold building and industry-leading hydraulic presses.

In 2009, the Reed City Group division was reacquired, not by another manufacturing company, but by Reed City native and plant general manager Rod Weck, who was joined in purchasing the company by fellow employee and sales engineer Fred Youngs. Rod had been employed at the company since his apprenticeship began there in 1974. Shortly after serving a tour in Vietnam from 1971-1972, Rod began his career at Reed City Group on the shop floor, working his way up over the years as mold leader, quality manager, mold supervisor, assistant plant manager, plant manager, and general manager. Rod continues to be a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2964 in Reed City, Michigan.

Under Rod’s leadership, the company has expanded beyond its core tool, die and mold building services. Today, the company meets demand across new automotive, consumer, agricultural, appliance and other industries.
